Growing up in a small northern Ontario town and working in a remote Artic Community, I developed a deep understanding of the unique healthcare challenges faced by rural and remote communities. This firsthand experience has fueled my commitment to bettering the healthcare system for all, particularly those in underserved areas. My upbringing instilled in me the values of resilience, resourcefulness, and community collaboration, qualities that I bring to every aspect of my professional practice.
Working in low resource areas requires a wide depth of skill and knowledge. Acute cases must be treated and stabilized for medical evacuation, and this is all done on the front line of small hospitals and health centers. Though I do not currently hold any specialty certifications, I would like to fulfill the requirements for the Canadian Nurses Association Emergency Nurse Certified Canada.
Aiming for a healthier population and approaching health from an upstream perspective requires addressing issues early on and implementing preventative measures. Thus, I am motivated to acquire as many skills and as much knowledge as possible to bring into these disadvantaged populations to empower them to lead healthier lives.
