Hi, I’m Darren. I’m a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario and Licensed Practical Nurse in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. I grew up in Northern Ontario in the rural town of Kirkland Lake. I speak English and French fluently. I completed a BScN at Nipissing University in 2024.
I prefer the smaller communities and I intend to work and live in them my entire life. The resilience, sense of community, and creativity of the people in these low resource environments are admirable, and it is in these environments that I thrive.
I’m passionate about learning and having a positive impact in the lives of the people I live alongside. I’ve entered healthcare to meet that intrinsic drive, and I intend to go as far as possible to be the best practitioner I can. I aspire to become a physician with deep knowledge and competency in generalist, emergency, and rural and remote health issues.
Right now, I am completing the Doctor of Medicine program at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. I will be returning to work in the North as a Registered Nurse in the summers of 2025 and 2026 when we have time off. I’m looking forward to practicing in the advanced scope and the opportunities that come with it.
